What is physical therapy?
Physical therapy is a health care profession primarily concerned with the remediation of impairments and disabilities and the promotion of mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement potential through examination, evaluation, diagnosis and physical intervention. It is carried out by aphysical therapists. Chiropractors are also licensed to perform physiotherapy.
Physical therapists and chiropractors use a variety of modalities to help treat their patients. There are a variety of treatment modalities that can help strengthen, relax, and heal muscles. Some of the modalities used are heat, traction, therapeutic exercises, gait training, moist heat, ultrasound, laser treatment, manual therapy, electrical muscle stimulation and several other modalities. Each case is unique and the therapist or chiropractor will asses and produce a treatment plan. Many times you will be instructed in a home exercise program.
